Andy Taylor is inspired by the moments that stop him in his tracks, inspiring the artist to pull out his sketchbook and capture the moments that struck him. With his sketch as a reference, Taylor returns to his studio to add color to the ink sketch in his notebook– colors that match the emotion evoked by the moment. From there, he stretches and primes his canvas, makes the frame, and translates the scenes captures in his small sketches into a painting. Taylor’s colorful, gestural style captures the quiet scenes that give him, and the viewer, a moment’s pause.
Ann Korologos Gallery spent the day with Andy, visiting his studio, and joining him on a drive to Marion Gulch, one of his favorite areas near Carbondale, to see what inspires the artist, and why painting is still his passion after 49 years.
