The Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt, Colorado presents Nature in Layers, opening on February 18, 2017. The exhibition features the intricately layered, nature-based abstract paintings of Michael Kessler, based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Kessler is known for creating large-scale panels that reference forest and stream, bringing the outdoors inside in a fresh way. His abstractions complement modern architecture especially well and can be found in many contemporary homes across the U.S. He will discuss his work, influences and process at the opening reception on February 18 from 5-7 pm.
In his own words:
“I began by painting landscapes, but through prolonged and careful observation it was the inner dynamics of the natural world that grasped my attention… I began to sensitize myself to the processes that were responsible for the appearance of the natural world like sedimentation and erosion. Gradually my painting took on these characteristics.”
As the premier showcase for Western contemporary art, the Ann Korologos Gallery proudly offers a wide array of Western artists working in a variety of media and representing diverse artistic traditions. Paintings, photographs, ceramics and sculpture by many of gallery’s artists will also be on view during the Kessler exhibition.
Nature in Layers will remain on view through March 15, 2017. For more information, please visit the gallery at 211 Midland Avenue in Basalt or call 970.927.9668.
