We worked into the evening hanging Michael Kessler’s exhibition, and it is stunning. Mounting a show is a lot of work, but it has a lot of rewards. This was no exception. Michael helped last night, and so we got to talk about his work, his career and art in general. Michael is a unique and interesting artist. He works from a great sense of generosity, with his work, and with his effort. I asked, “how many one man exhibitions have you had?” The question made him pause. “I don’t know. I would say at least a hundred, no, probably 200.” Two hundred exhibitions! The man is indefatigable. And he puts his heart into each show, each painting. If you are in town, you must meet Michael tonight at the gallery, 6 – 8 pm in Basalt. If you can’t make it, we’ll have a video recording of his talk, which we’ll but online later next week.
