Diana Woods artist speaks with writer Tom Hess from Colorado Life magazine about the inspiration she garners from wild horses.
Woods states, “They have inspired me and sparked my imagination since I moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 1984. At the time, I was working for the Bureau of Land Management as a dispatcher for the wildfire coordination center. I heard there was going to be a round up on the Little Bookcliffs and I asked if I could go and watch. It was quite a shock to see the herds run desperately from the encroaching helicopters. Since then, I have spent a lot of time in the wild horse area, riding my flea bitten gray thoroughbred, Finnegan. Witnessing the amazing bonds these bands share has inspired me to paint them, in hopes the viewer feels what I feel when I see them in the wild.”
